weekend before last, rafted ocoee. above is a part of the ocoee. last weekend, went to chattanooga for brother's wedding reception. have not had time to process those pictures or write delicate pretty sentences that go together in a series to tell a story.

ok. last week, I sold my clarinet on ebay for $100 in five minutes. then I sold my guitar for what it went for in an ebay auction for $86. It's Xclnt.

and today I got all signed up that is I paid $1900 for a bar review class. in return I can study a few books for a while, then I have to return the books. the books are specially set for this bar exam. they are good and I will use them a lot.

gary, you asked me about new music. I don't have your email address. if you send me your email address I'll try and point you at a few things I'm hearing.

When with my mother I was coming down
from the country the day of the hurricane,

I had no idea where I was and promised myself
I would some day go back to study this
curious and industrious people who lived
in these apartments, at these sharp
corners and turns of intersecting avenues
with so little apparent communication
with an outside world. How did they get
cut off this way from representation in our
newspapers and other means of publicity
when so near the metropolis, so closely
surrounded by the familiar and famous?

just found out there's a new documentary re Townes Van Zandt, a favorite musician. check out the post at this blog for more about the man and the movie. And click on title, above, for the movie's site, which has a trailer.

Seems it's showing in Nashville starting today, stopping on the 26th, in the Nashville Film Festival. Otherwise it may be bought. Might make a good graduation present for somebody.

When I’m older I write only once a week. The rest of the time I heal and drink juice cocktails and read and talk to people. This method seems to work for me and over time I even start to fart poems. The Corcoran asks me to do an exhibit of poems associated with infrared photographs of farts. I spend days matching poems to the right farts, finishing in just enough time to drive to Florida and see my great-uncle, my separated cousin, and her two babies.

A boy can be your boyfriend without actually being your boyfriend. On the way you stop to wander through Glen Echo Park. The ancient cries of fun echo and re-echo. Years later I remember holding your hand. My memory is unreliable.

Favorable notice in another paper. On the fire escape the man asked me if I had hyperthyroid condition. Offended, I insisted my thyroid was normal.

I realize that I have been as repressed in my poetry as I have been foolish in real life. When my writing goes well I attribute it to God. When I kissed you in the car I blamed myself. We were in the church for hours discussing our favorite cathedrals. There is always something I have not bothered to remember.

You are my secret best friend. I am a gas station attendant. When someone gives me a tip it is like I have done something great. I feel great as I pump gas.

first day of classes today. odd, odd, odd. it still, now, with five out of six semesters finished, seems strange to me that I am in law school. but today wasn't bad. just odd. added oddness that I was there at nine in the morning, which I haven't been, not since spring of last year.

Anyway at nine was "conflict of laws," which is a whole (small) class about how you pick what law applies, and which is taught by an outgoing dean (he wants to teach more.) He's very enthusiastic and made eye contact with all students including me many times. He even made me talk, which it's my policy not to do in class, but it was like he forced me to talk.

Then at about eleven was "civil rights actions," a larger class taught by the guy that taught me criminal procedure 1, which is the most useful class I ever did take in law school so far. This professor's all about the thing he says is called "legal realism," which it seems means that if you're realistic, you see that law is all about politics. So, he says we'll spend a lot of time looking at who's on the supreme court (I'll start writing it as "scotus" soon, I promise) for each case, since the ideo-logy of each justice is The Thing.

today rode to get groceries via greenway to bi-lo on kingston. was a good ride. had to scoot running law professors outtamyway. also rode to market square tonight. returning home, brought bike in elevator. fellow elevatorer said was like I heart huckabees', which is a movie I remember reading of, um, but the elevatorer said, in that movie there was a guy wearing a suit riding a bike, and the suit was just like mine. so now a dam sure can't watch that movie. good thing I didn't want to nohow no not a whole lot.

The second ride was after I had to leave my apartment. The fire alarm went off, and when it goes off, you just can not be here. Loud noises, a mixture of a high-pitch, a siren, strobe lights. Six fire engines showed up for five minutes and then left. Then the evacuated crowd could get in line for the elevator to get back to dinner-time.

Grades for fall 2005

Grades got published today. I'd been waiting to worry until I checked them, so, I was (good grief) shaking as I clicked the link for each class and scrolled through to find the grade given next to my anonymous number.

I passed everything. I am so happy.

Ended up doing about as well as I've done all along, if even closer to my average (nothing too close to failing). Good news.
